THE LEARNING CURVE CONTINUES
For release – immediately

For Chace Karpenko, the first quarter of the season was all about learning and finding the right groove of muscling a sprintcar around Northline Speedway and so far, the results have reflected on the talented driver’s objective.

After a successful return on May 9 at the popular Darwin venue, the team re grouped for the second meeting on May 23.

“We have been using the first part (of the season) to get back into the groove and get comfortable and consistent again whilst running the 372 (cubic inch engine)” Karpenko explained.

An improvement in qualifying for the second night saw Karpenko set the 6th quickest time of 12.2860 seconds. This placed him behind some tough competition including Warrenne Ekins and top qualifier, Ryan Farrell.

The heat races were to tell a story of consistency, netting a third place in the first heat ahead of a fast finishing, Daniel Goldoni. While the next two heat races saw Karpenko finish in the top five in both races.
Unfortunately for Karpenko, the night would end prematurely on the opening lap of the twenty lap final, after being struck by another car as the fields blasted into turn one.

“Another car got crossed up beside us at the start of the feature and banged into our right rear (tyre), knocking off the Jacobs ladder and dropping the driveline out, putting us on the infield” said a dejected Karpenko.

“We are happy with the start to the season, but we were unlucky tonight, missing out on valuable track time in the final, but that’s the way it goes I guess” he continued.

After a short break, the team was back for the next event on June 6, which once again started solidly with 8th quickest of the thirteen cars in qualifying, with a time of 12.3580.

The first heat started fiercely with Karpenko harassing Luch Monte for lap after lap before spinning out, dropping him to seventh place. This was followed by a fifth in the second heat race.

But worse was still to come for Karpenko in the third heat. Starting from the front row, Chace was clearing out to a comfortable lead, when the left rear tyre exploded in turn two, ending his race on lap three.

With a spot starting at the back of the field for the twenty lap final, Karpenko narrowly missed a green flag collision that claimed a quarter of the field. When the race restarted, he began to charge through the field, moving to the top five at the halfway mark, he would move up one more spot to finish in fourth place in a race which was once again won by Ryan Farrell.

“We were real loose in the feature as the track dusted off in the end, we avoided a crash at the start which knocked out a few cars, this helped with getting the result we got tonight” an upbeat Karpenko commented.

Later after the meeting, Karpenko reflected on the night’s events. “Tonight we were running strong all night but it was frustrating leading the 3rd heat well and then the left rear (tyre) popped through turn two, where we were lucky to keep it off the fence and pull infield “We have rarely been out of the top five, picking up a couple heat wins along the way, learning more and more about the car”

He was also very complimentary of his hard working crew and the support of his
sponsors. “We’re only a young bunch with a lot to learn about these things. So at this early stage I’m happy to put down some consistent laps and bring the car home
straight”.

“I have to thank my sponsors, they are our back bone and without them we wouldn’t be out there every week, they have been very supportive and it is good to get them involved with the car as much as possible”.

The next event for the team is on Saturday June 27th at Northline Speedway in Darwin.
