THE ‘CHACE’ BEGINS FOR KARPENKO RACING!
For release – immediately
Chace Karpenko returned to sprintcar racing with a vengeance, after netting a fourth place result, in the opening night of competition at Ostojic Group Northline Speedway last Saturday night (May 9).
Karpenko, who missed majority of the 2008 season due to injury, burst back into the speedway spotlight with his former Matthew Reed Maxim chassis to start the twenty lap final at the pointy end along side the very tough Ryan Farrell from Western Australia.
He quickly pounced to the lead of the race and built up a strong lead until a caution period at lap six, brought him back to the field. He led again at the restart, only to have overheating issues with his engine. He dropped down to finish a lonely fourth and ruing what might have been.
Incidentally, Karpenko’s car was the only 372 cubic inch car in the field.
“I had a strong lead at the start and thought it would be ok, but when the caution lights came on, I found it hard to get away at the restart and then the engine just started to get hot, so I eased off” an upbeat Karpenko recalled.
“I’m happy with the result overall, but it still would have been great to win after missing most of the season last year (2008)” he continued.
The night began in great style for Karpenko, winning his first heat race, which was polluted with restarts, the remaining heats saw him collect top three finishes.
here and with the Chariots (of Thunder Sprintcar) series coming up later in the season, I think we will have a strong chance” said Karpenko.
The decision to race this year only came about in a short time frame. Karpenko was offered a position on Kevin Quinlan’s team for the season, so he could work on his fitness in readiness for the 2010 season, when Quinlan offered him assistance to get back on track.
“Kev (Quinlan) is probably the one responsible for helping me make the decision to race this season. He offered me a bay in his workshop and some help with a spares package, if I required it” Chace explained.
“So I ended up buying a car the following week from Matty Reed in Victoria, which was his 2005 Maxim chassis and 372 (cubic inch) package” he continued.
His crew consists of Luke Picken, Dan Egan, Robert Hodgetts and Megan Warham for the 2009 season.
“My crew are the silent achievers in this package and with out them, its not possible to go racing” an enthusiastic Karpenko commented.
“I have also had the support of my friend Dieter, who runs a design studio here in Darwin and we put together a sponsorship proposal and within a couple of weeks, we had some really positive feedback,” he continued.
The team now looks forward to the next meeting in Darwin on Saturday May 23, where points count towards the club championship.
